A modern radiotherapy treatment room

Leukaemia, Lymphoma & Myeloma

Blood cancers treated with chemotherapy, immunotherapy and, for some patients, bone marrow transplant.

Blood cancers are treated by haemato-oncologists. Depending on the diagnosis and response, treatment may include chemotherapy, targeted drugs, immunotherapy and a bone marrow (haematopoietic stem cell) transplant using the patient’s own cells or a matched donor’s.

What treatment options may your specialist discuss?

  • Chemotherapy and targeted therapy
  • Autologous bone marrow transplant
  • Allogeneic transplant with a matched related donor

What does the trip look like, stage by stage?

  1. 01

    Before you travel

We share your diagnosis reports, bone marrow studies and donor HLA typing if available with suitable accredited hospitals, return their written opinions and estimates, and — once you choose — arrange the hospital letter for your e-Medical visa and up to two attendant visas.

  2. 02

    Arrival and assessment

Airport pickup, check-in near the hospital and your first consultation. The specialist team reviews your reports in person and orders any repeat tests they need before confirming the plan.

  3. 03

    Workup

Tests for the patient and, for allogeneic transplants, the related donor.

  4. 04

    Treatment or transplant

Conditioning and transplant in a dedicated unit, or chemotherapy cycles as planned.

  5. 05

    Engraftment and recovery

Close monitoring near the hospital during the period the team considers critical.

  6. 06

    Fitness to fly and home

A final review, your discharge summary, medicines and written follow-up plan. We arrange the return journey and the first teleconsultation with your treating team.

About timelines

We do not publish how many days each stage takes. That depends on your condition, your treatment and how you recover, and it is decided by your treating specialist — who sets it out in writing before you travel.
