Heal in India (also: Heal in India initiative, Heal by India): Heal in India is the Government of India’s initiative to promote medical value travel, including an official portal for international patients and related visa measures.
Heal in India is a Government of India initiative to promote medical travel to the country. PIB reported in 2023 that the Health and Ayush ministries, C-DAC and the Services Export Promotion Council were developing a single Heal in India portal. The Ayush visa was introduced as part of the Heal in India roadmap.
What does Heal in India include?
PIB said in March 2023 that Heal in India is an initiative of the government to promote medical tourism in the country. It described a one-step portal developed by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the Ministry of Ayush, C-DAC and the Services Export Promotion Council. A related campaign is called Heal by India.
PIB said in August 2023 that the new Ayush visa was part of India’s roadmap for the Heal in India initiative.
What is the official portal?
The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare’s portal at healinindia.gov.in is branded Advantage Healthcare India. It describes itself as the Medical Value Travel Digital Portal. It lets users search by city, hospital, doctor, procedure or MVT facilitator. It also offers package information and a grievance redressal mechanism. PIB has described it as providing information for international patients seeking care in India.
How should patients use it?
- Use it as one source of information on hospitals and facilitators, not as an endorsement of any particular one.
- Check a hospital’s accreditation status directly with NABH or JCI.
- Check a doctor’s registration on the Indian Medical Register.
- Confirm visa rules on the official Indian visa portal.
A listing on a government portal tells you a provider has registered. It does not tell you whether that provider is right for your condition. Your treating specialist decides on treatment.
Questions people ask
Is Heal in India a visa?
No. Heal in India is an initiative and portal. Visas for treatment are separate: medical and e-Medical visas for hospital treatment and the Ayush visa for Ayush treatment. Check the official visa portal for current categories.
Does Heal in India set hospital prices?
The portal says it aims to show package pricing online. Prices are set by hospitals. Always ask the treating hospital for a written estimate that names what is included.
