e-Medical Attendant visa (also: e-MED Attendant visa, e-M2 V): The e-Medical Attendant visa is an electronic visa for a person accompanying a patient who holds an Indian e-Medical visa.
The e-Medical Attendant visa lets a companion travel with a patient who holds an e-Medical visa. The official portal states that only two e-Medical Attendant visas are granted against one e-Medical visa. Each attendant applies separately on the Indian e-Visa portal. The application window and arrival rules are the same as for the patient.
Who can be an attendant?
The e-Visa portal lists attending an e-Medical visa holder as an eligible purpose. For the paper route, Indian missions describe the attendant as a close relative, family member or friend of the patient. Hospitals may have their own preferences, for example someone who can make decisions with the patient.
What does an attendant upload?
- A scanned passport bio page.
- Details of the patient’s e-Medical visa application, as asked on the form.
- A passport valid for at least six months with two blank pages.
The portal lists only the passport page as the required document for the attendant. The patient’s hospital letter supports the main application.
When should attendants apply?
Apply in the same window as the patient, from 120 days to at least 4 days before arrival. It is sensible to apply together so that both visas are ready at the same time.
Rules after arrival
Attendants enter through the same designated airports and seaports. Biometrics are captured on arrival. The e-Visa cannot be extended or converted, so plan the attendant’s stay around the patient’s expected treatment.
Choosing the right person
An attendant is more than a visa category. The hospital will rely on them for daily support, food and paperwork. Choose someone fit to travel who can stay for the whole hospital phase.
Questions people ask
Can two family members come with one patient?
Yes. The portal allows a maximum of two e-Medical Attendant visas for each e-Medical visa. If more relatives want to visit, they need a different visa that fits their own purpose, such as a tourist visa.
Can the attendant also receive treatment in India?
An attendant visa is for accompanying the patient. If an attendant needs planned treatment, they should apply for their own e-Medical visa with a hospital letter. In an emergency, the hospital and the immigration authorities advise on the right step.
