National ART and Surrogacy Registry: checking a fertility clinic

The National ART and Surrogacy Registry is India’s public record of registered IVF clinics, banks and surrogacy clinics. How to use it before you book.

National ART and Surrogacy Registry (also: National Registry, National ART & Surrogacy Portal): The National ART and Surrogacy Registry is India’s central online database of registered ART clinics, ART banks and surrogacy clinics, set up under the ART Act 2021.

The National ART and Surrogacy Registry is India’s central public record of registered assisted reproduction clinics, gamete banks and surrogacy clinics. It is hosted at the Department of Health Research under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. Checking it is a simple way to confirm that an IVF clinic you are considering is registered as the law requires.

Why does the registry exist?

Section 9 of the ART (Regulation) Act 2021 lets the Central Government set up the registry. Section 11 says it serves as a central database of all clinics and banks in the country. That includes the nature and types of services they provide. The registry page adds that it will collect outcome data and help the National Board shape policy and guidelines.

How do clinics register?

Clinics and banks apply online through the registry portal. They then send a signed printout and the prescribed fee to their state or union territory appropriate authority within seven days. ART clinic and bank registration lasts five years under the ART Act. Surrogacy clinic registration lasts three years under the Surrogacy Act.

How can you use it as a patient?

  • Open the portal at registry.artsurrogacy.gov.in and view the dashboard.
  • Look at the lists of registered and rejected applications for each category.
  • Match the clinic’s exact legal name and address to the registered entry.
  • Ask the clinic for its registration certificate and check the dates.
  • Ask your case manager to help if a name does not match clearly.

Registration confirms legal standing. It does not tell you about a clinic’s outcomes or suitability for your case. Your fertility specialist decides on the treatment plan.

Questions people ask

What if a clinic says its registration is pending?

Under the ART Act no clinic or bank may operate without registration. Ask for written proof of its status from the state appropriate authority and think carefully before paying any deposit. A registered alternative is the safer choice.

Does the registry list individual doctors?

The registry records clinics, banks and surrogacy clinics. To check a doctor, use the Indian Medical Register maintained by the National Medical Commission or the relevant state medical council.
