Reports to send for a fertility consultation in India

Which tests and history to send for a fertility consultation in India: hormone tests, ultrasound and tube reports, semen analysis and past IVF cycles.

For a fertility consultation, send both partners’ test results: hormone and ovulation tests, pelvic ultrasound and tube reports for the woman, semen analysis for the man, infection screening, and a record of any previous IUI or IVF cycles. The NHS lists these among the usual fertility investigations. The fertility specialist decides which treatment, if any, is suitable.

Fertility assessment looks at both partners. The NHS describes blood tests to check ovulation, ultrasound of the ovaries, womb and tubes, tests for tube blockage and semen analysis. Before IVF, clinics usually check how the ovaries are likely to respond and screen for HIV and hepatitis B and C. In India, fertility treatment must take place in an ART-registered clinic. Check the clinic first, then send the file below.

Which tests for the woman should you send?

  • Hormone tests, including ovulation and ovarian reserve tests, with cycle day noted.
  • Pelvic ultrasound reports.
  • Tube tests: hysterosalpingogram or contrast ultrasound reports.
  • Laparoscopy or hysteroscopy reports, if done.
  • Thyroid and other blood tests your doctor has ordered.

Which tests for the man should you send?

  • Semen analysis reports, with dates and the laboratory name.
  • Any repeat semen analysis.
  • Hormone tests or urology letters, if done.
  • Details of any surgery or treatment affecting fertility.

Which screening results help?

  • HIV, hepatitis B and hepatitis C results for both partners.
  • Chlamydia test results, if done.
  • Blood group for both partners.
  • Rubella immunity, if tested.

What treatment history should you include?

  • Number of IUI or IVF cycles, with dates and clinic names.
  • Medicines used and how the ovaries responded.
  • Number of eggs collected and embryos created, if known.
  • Embryo transfers and outcomes.
  • Any frozen embryos stored and where.

What personal history matters?

  • How long you have been trying to conceive.
  • Menstrual cycle pattern.
  • Previous pregnancies, miscarriages or ectopic pregnancies.
  • Other conditions and current medicines for both partners.

Consent comes later

Under the ART Rules 2022, a registered clinic keeps prescribed consent forms that the couple or woman signs before treatment. Ask for these in advance so you have time to read them.

Questions people ask

Do both partners need to send reports?

Yes, where both are involved in treatment. The NHS describes tests for both women and men, because fertility problems can affect either partner. A complete picture helps the specialist give a useful first opinion.

What if my tests are more than a year old?

Send them with their dates. Some tests, such as hormone levels, may need repeating closer to treatment. The fertility specialist will say which ones after reviewing your file, so you can plan any repeat tests.

Can a foreign couple use surrogacy in India?

No. Surrogacy is not available to foreign nationals in India, and IndiaMedica does not arrange it. Fertility treatment such as IVF in an ART-registered clinic is a separate matter for your specialist to discuss.
