How we verify a hospital

How IndiaMedica checks hospital accreditation: the source and date on every badge, the twelve-month expiry rule and why listings cannot be bought.

IndiaMedica verifies a hospital by checking its accreditation with the source and recording the date. Every badge on the site shows where it was checked and when. A badge older than twelve months stops showing automatically until it is re-checked. Where only the hospital’s own statement was available, the page says so. Hospitals cannot pay for placement.

IndiaMedicaHow we verify a hospital
  1. 01Identify the accreditationNote which accreditations the hospital claims, usually NABH, JCI or both.
  2. 02Check at the sourceLook the hospital up in the accreditor’s own directory, such as NABH’s online list.
  3. 03Record source and dateEach badge shows the source checked and the date it was checked.
  4. 04Flag weaker evidenceWhere only the hospital’s own statement was found, the listing says so plainly.
  5. 05Check before partnershipThe accreditor’s directory is checked before a hospital becomes a partner.
  6. 06Expire old badgesA badge older than twelve months stops showing until re-checked. The rule is enforced in code.
  7. 07Keep listings editorialHospitals cannot buy placement or a higher position. The list is not a ranking.

Why check accreditation at the source?

A logo on a hospital website can be out of date. NABH says most of its accreditations last three to four years, with a mid-cycle assessment. JCI runs on a three-year cycle. Checking the accreditor’s own list shows the current position.

What does a badge on IndiaMedica tell you?

It shows which accreditation was checked, the source and the date. If a hospital’s badge is more than twelve months old it stops showing. IndiaMedica says this rule is enforced in its code, not left to memory.

What are the limits of these checks?

Some current entries cite the hospital’s own published statement. IndiaMedica labels these so you can see the evidence used. Accreditation confirms that standards were met at assessment. It does not say how a specialist will advise in your case.

Check it yourself too

NABH lists accredited organisations in an online directory you can filter by state, city and speciality. NABH also says accredited hospitals must display their status. You can ask the hospital for its current certificate.

Can a hospital pay to be listed?

No. Listings are editorial and hospitals cannot buy a higher position. Partner hospitals pay a disclosed referral fee only when an introduced patient is treated. That fee does not decide which hospitals are suggested.

Questions people ask

Why do some hospitals disappear from IndiaMedica’s list?

A badge that has not been re-checked within twelve months stops showing automatically. The hospital may still be accredited. The rule makes sure nothing on the site relies on an old check. The badge returns once it is verified again.

Is IndiaMedica’s hospital list a ranking?

No. IndiaMedica states the list is deliberately short and is not a ranking. A hospital’s place on the page says nothing about which is right for you. That depends on your case and the specialists’ written opinions.
