Which visa does a Turkmen patient need?

Turkmenistan does not appear on the official e-Visa eligible list. The Embassy of India in Ashgabat issues three relevant visas:

  • The medical visa, for the patient.
  • The medical attendant visa, for a companion.
  • The Ayush and attendant visa, for treatment under Indian systems of medicine such as Ayurveda.

How do you apply?

  • Fill in the visa form online at the Government of India visa website and upload your photograph.
  • Print the form and attach two recent passport-size photographs.
  • Submit the application at the Consular Wing of the Embassy of India in Ashgabat.
  • For the medical visa, include your medical documents and the hospital’s invitation letter.

The Embassy lists medical visas valid for up to six months, or from six months to one year. Its page gives different opening times in different places, so confirm the Consular Wing hours by phone before you go.

What medical documents should you bring?

  • A referral letter and summary from your doctor in Turkmenistan.
  • Recent test results and imaging, with the scan files.
  • The invitation letter from the Indian hospital that has accepted your case.
  • A list of your current medicines and doses.

What about Ayurveda?

PIB says the Government of India introduced a dedicated Ayush visa on 27 July 2023. The Embassy in Ashgabat lists an Ayush and attendant category. Ayurveda is supportive wellness care. It never replaces treatment your specialist recommends.

How many attendants can come?

The Bureau of Immigration allows most foreign nationals up to two medical attendants. Make sure each attendant’s details match the hospital’s letter.

Is Russian-language support available?

IndiaMedica publishes a full Russian edition. If you read Russian, you can send your case and questions in Russian. We can ask hospitals about a Russian-speaking interpreter for consultations.

How does IndiaMedica help Turkmen patients?

We review your reports free of charge and ask suitable hospitals for an opinion. The treating specialist decides whether treatment is suitable. Because Turkmen patients apply in person at the Embassy, we help you get the hospital invitation letter early and check that it is complete.
