Can Kenyans get an e-Medical visa for India?

Yes. Kenya appears on the e-Visa eligible-countries list on the official Indian portal. The e-Medical visa is for the patient. The e-Medical Attendant visa is for companions, and the portal states that only two attendant visas are granted against one e-Medical visa.

Kenya is a significant source of medical travellers. PIB’s May 2026 backgrounder lists 9,357 arrivals from Kenya for medical treatment in 2025.

What does the online application need?

  • A passport with at least six months’ validity when you apply and at least two blank pages.
  • A recent front-facing photograph on a white background, uploaded as a JPEG.
  • The passport’s personal details page, uploaded as a PDF.
  • For the patient, a letter from the Indian hospital on its letterhead showing the suggested admission date.
  • An application made at least four days before arrival, within the portal’s 120-day window.

The portal states that the fee is non-refundable once paid and that biometric details are captured at immigration on arrival. An e-Visa cannot be extended or converted, so discuss the likely length of treatment with the hospital before you apply.

Yellow fever certificate

Kenya is on the list of yellow fever endemic countries reproduced by India’s Ministry of Health. Travellers arriving without a valid certificate can be quarantined. The certificate becomes valid ten days after vaccination and lasts for life.

Which language edition suits Kenyan patients?

The English edition of IndiaMedica covers every page a Kenyan family needs. Indian hospitals issue reports, estimates and discharge summaries in English.

Which Indian cities accept e-Visa arrivals?

e-Visa holders must enter through a designated airport or seaport. The portal’s list includes Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Kochi (listed as Cochin), all cities with large hospitals described in our destination guides. Check that your ticket lands at a listed airport.

What should Kenyan patients pack and prepare?

Bring printed copies of recent reports and scans, the hospital letter and your e-Visa approval. India prohibits the import of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, so carry prescriptions for every regular medicine and confirm controlled medicines with the hospital first. Arrange how you will settle hospital bills before you travel and declare foreign currency above the prescribed limits on arrival.

How does IndiaMedica help Kenyan patients?

Send your reports for a free case review. We ask suitable accredited hospitals for an opinion and estimate, help you request the letter the e-Visa portal asks for and stay in touch through treatment and follow-up at home. Hospitals pay us a disclosed referral fee. It never changes your price.

Questions people ask

How many attendants can travel with a Kenyan patient on e-Visas?

The portal allows two e-Medical Attendant visas against one e-Medical visa. If more family members wish to travel, they would need another visa category that fits their purpose. Ask the hospital how many attendants it can accommodate.

Do I need to visit the Indian High Commission in Nairobi for an e-Visa?

No. The e-Visa is applied for and paid for online through the official portal. Use only the government portal and avoid look-alike websites that charge extra fees.
