Which visa does a patient from Myanmar use?

Myanmar appears on the official list of countries eligible for the Indian e-Visa. A patient applies for the e-Medical visa. A family member who will stay alongside applies for the e-Medical Attendant visa. The portal grants no more than two attendant visas against one patient visa.

Who cannot use the e-Visa?

Exclusions come first. The portal says holders of diplomatic or official passports cannot use the e-Visa. Nor can people with a serving or retired defence, military, security or police background. They must apply for a regular visa at an Indian mission. If any of this applies to the patient or an attendant, plan for a regular medical visa from the start.

Where can you enter India?

An e-Visa can only be used at an entry point the portal names. Its list of airports includes Kolkata, Guwahati, Bagdogra, Gaya, Bhubaneswar, Delhi, Chennai and Bengaluru. Check the current list on the portal before you choose a route. If you hope to travel overland, check whether your crossing point accepts e-Visa holders. Do this before you apply.

What should you prepare?

  • A passport with at least six months’ validity when you apply and two blank pages.
  • A clear photograph and a scan of the passport page for the online form.
  • Reports, imaging and prescriptions, with an English summary from your doctor.
  • The hospital’s acceptance letter once the specialist has reviewed your case.
  • Names and passport details of the two people who may accompany you.

What are the timing rules?

Apply online at least four days before arrival and within a 120-day window. The e-Visa is non-extendable and non-convertible. Ask the hospital for an honest estimate of the stay and agree a plan with your attendant before you apply. Biometric details are captured at immigration when you arrive.

Is language support available?

IndiaMedica works in English for patients from Myanmar. If you need help with a Burmese-language report, ask your doctor for an English summary first. We can then ask the hospital about interpreter support for consultations.

How does IndiaMedica help?

We review your reports free of charge and ask suitable hospitals for an opinion, with your consent. The treating specialist decides whether treatment is suitable, the plan and how long you should stay. We help you compare replies, prepare the hospital letter for your e-Medical application and plan the journey for you and your attendants.

Questions people ask
