On arrival day you clear immigration with your printed e-Visa authorisation, have biometrics taken and get the visa stamped. You are then met at the airport, taken to accommodation near the hospital and given a local SIM. Your IndiaMedica case manager meets you on day one. What happens at immigration?

The official e-Visa portal says to print the electronic travel authorisation and present it at the immigration checkpoint. Biometric details are captured on arrival. The e-Visa is then stamped in your passport. Attendants go through the same steps.

What should be in your hand luggage?

  • Passport and printed ETA for each traveller
  • The hospital letter with your admission date
  • Medical reports and imaging discs or files
  • Medicines in their original packaging, with prescriptions
  • Contact details for your case manager and the hospital

CDC advises keeping medicines in their original packaging when travelling for treatment.

Why does the hotel ask for your passport?

The Bureau of Immigration’s Medical and Ayush Visa Portal states that hotels and other accommodation providers are legally obliged to file a form for every foreign guest. Expect to show your passport and visa at check-in.

What does the case manager cover on day one?

Your case manager explains the hospital schedule, the admission deposit and how billing works. They confirm interpreter arrangements and give you a number to call. Clinical questions go to your doctors.

Rest before the hospital visit

Long flights are tiring. Tell the hospital if you feel unwell on arrival. The treating team decides whether anything in the plan should change.

Questions people ask

Do I go straight to the hospital from the airport?

Usually you go to your accommodation first and attend the hospital on the date it has given you. If your condition needs it, your case manager can arrange direct transfer. The hospital and your doctors set the schedule.

What if my flight is delayed?

Let your case manager know as soon as you can. They will update the driver, the accommodation and the hospital’s international patient desk. The hospital decides whether your appointments need to move.
